Watch JR, Roo, and Sprocket embark on their very first adventure together.
Star Trek: Scouts is the animated web series aimed at preschoolers, and it features the adventures of three best friends learning to become the future explorers of Starfleet. In their very first episode, “Asteroid Blasters No. 1” (watch above) it’s just a typical day on Earth. The blue-haired Vulcan, Sprocket enhances JR’s boots into rocket-powered perfection when all of a sudden, the astro alarm detects an incoming threat!
A giant soap-bar asteroid from the Bathnar Nebula is on a collision course with Earth, and it’s up to the three eight-year-old kids to stop it. JR is the leader of the group, and he instructs Roo to activate their defensive countermeasure, which is the asteroid deflector wheel. “On it like a comet, JR,” Roo recites her catchphrase, and an item is chosen to defend against the soapy asteroid.
Unfortunately, the Romulan rubber ducky doesn’t get the job done, but the trio eventually realizes the correct countermeasure to launch against the soap bar asteroid is a tank of water. A little weaponized H20 turns the asteroid into plenty of harmless soap bubbles which the team plays with as they celebrate their victory.
Personally, my favorite adventure the Scouts have together is when they encounter a Horta, but there’s plenty to keep young kids entertained in this episode, too. Each of the children have their own pet sidekick, and in this episode Roo and company are introduced to her adorable, blue-green-and-purple Targ from the Klingon homeworld, Kronos (Qo'noS) — a nice nod to Trekkies who are watching the show with their kids.
I highly recommend the Star Trek: Scouts series. Each episode is about four minutes long, or even less, and you can find them on the Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel. New installments or compilations drop every Saturday.
