A gormagander munching on alpha particles has followed its snacking path into the wake of a black hole. Looks like it’s time for another adventure for the Star Trek: Scouts.

JR, Roo, and Sprocket team up on their spacecraft for this holodeck rescue. The kids quickly realize they need pulling power and activate the little ship’s tractor beam. It works at first but the gormagander starts to pull the ship with him, closer to the black hole. They deactivate the tractor beam and try a new plan.

Roo hits her combadge, and is soon in her space suit. Her plan is to go talk to the creature as she speaks its language. Soon she’s outside the ship and zipping around on her hoverboard.

The others cheer her on, and Roo tells the animal to swim away. It understands her, and she uses a rope to lash herself to its fin. But it’s not enough, now Roo and the gormagander are being pulled into the black hole!

Back inside the ship, the boys think fast. Sprocket suggests that they try the classic slingshot maneuver, which is a clever time-traveling homage to another whale rescue: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Roo holds on tight while they boys lock on the tractor beam once more, and hit the engines! They slingshot themselves around the black hole, pulling Roo and the creature to safety.

They kids reunite the gormagander with its family, and Roo high-fives the whale creature’s fin as a goodbye. Back in the ship the kids gather together to put their hands in and say together, “Discover, grow, boldly go!”
