Who knew Seinfeld’s close talker had so much in common with this Starfleet Academy character?
Seinfeld is undoubtedly to comedy what Star Trek is to science fiction. Today, though, it turns out that one character from the beloved NBC comedy is very much like one of the newcomers appearing on the upcoming Paramount Plus streaming series, Starfleet Academy. While in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Paul Giamatti revealed that the villain he portrays in the Star Trek sequel series is quite like Aaron the close talker (Judge Reinhold) from Seinfeld. Giamatti said of his Nus Braka, which mirrors the behavior of Aaron via TrekMovie.com:
“I remembered reading something about Klingons standing too close to people. And I thought, ‘I’m going to stand too close’ [laughs]. So, I’m always getting way too close to people, like the physical body space.”
For those Trekkies unfamiliar with Seinfeld, Judge Reinhold portrayed the close-talking Aaron in the hilarious season 5 episode “The Raincoats.” Strangely, Aaron got right up in whoever’s face he was talking to, which particularly drove Jerry Seinfeld himself bonkers, enough so to bring up the peculiar talking habit of Elaine Benes’ (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) love interest to his friends. This sounds exactly what Giamatti did as Nus Braka for the upcoming Starfleet Academy. (Continued…)
