There’s a reason Nus Braka is such a close talker

Paul Giamatti’s Star Trek: Starfleet Academy character doesn't need a reason to be a close talker, but this trait undoubtedly rises to the surface because of Nus Braka’s bellicose nature, which stems from being part-Klingon and part-Tellarite — two of the most aggressive species in all of Star Trek's vaunted history. Giamatti addressed the issue during the same sit-down by saying:

“I think the Tellarites’ rights to me represented this kind of incredible disputatious thing. They just debate everything. Everything’s contradictory. So, I brought, I hope I brought some of that to it, and then the aggression [getting to close to others]."

Giamatti continued:

"But it’s interesting because my character’s attitude towards the Federation is very complicated. Without revealing a whole lot, he has a really sort of complicated take on the Federation. Very much. He has a dark history with the Federation.”

Giamatti has already admitted in interviews that he brought an over-the-top approach to the half-Klingon, half-Tellarite Nus Braka. However, the actor really doesn’t need to promote the new Star Trek villain anymore. I’ve been sold on the character ever since the news broke that Giamatti was cast in the role, and he is one of the main reasons I’m so excited to see the new streaming series. Let the close-talking Klingon do his thing!
