Two days after the season 3 finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the show’s own James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock appeared on television promoting their Paramount+ series. Paul Wesley and Ethan Peck found themselves playing some Spilling the E-Tea while appearing together on Entertainment Tonight, and the subject of Hollywood legend Gregory Peck being Ethan Peck’s grandfather came up near the end. While alternating some burning questions and answers with one another, Wesley asked his SNW co-star if he’d ever take on one of his grandpa’s iconic roles. Peck said (per ET):
“Oh, my gosh. I don’t think that I would. I… you know he played such incredible, iconic characters that are so special to so many people, and I wouldn’t dare to make an attempt to reinterpret any of those. Maybe there’s a world where I would play him in like a bio pic.”
Peck’s grandfather was nominated for the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar a total of five times during his illustrious career, and he won in 1963 for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. His grandson hasn’t garnered his own Academy Award yet, but the young thespian isn’t complaining. In fact, he’s enjoying his time playing the fan-favorite character of Mr. Spock in Strange New Worlds. Although, it’s certainly “intimidating” at times. Peck said during the same interview: "And I was in disbelief. It was a character I never expected to be up for."
Peck, who has now portrayed Mr. Spock in all three seasons of Strange New Worlds, continued by saying in the same sit-down: “At first, it’s been intimidating because they really do trust us and challenge us. And that’s a blessing. That’s not something many actors get to do.”
Production on season 4 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has officially wrapped, and, hopefully, those upcoming episodes will mark a return to form for the popular Paramount+ series. Now, Ethan Peck was being extremely humble because he is a very talented actor. So, which of his grandfather's movies would you like to see him remake? Personally, The Omen (1976) would be my choice.
