Did the Strange New Worlds cast go home empty handed or with their puppet counterparts?
Without question the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 episode that generated the most buzz online after it debuted on streaming was the puppet installment, “Level-Five Transporter Accident.” And many social media users have been inquiring about purchasing replicas of the SNW “Muppets,” but, believe it or not, even the actors didn't get take home their own puppets.
When asked if she and the Strange New Worlds cast got to keep their pint-sized puppets made to look like each actor, Jess Bush, who portrays Nurse Christine Chapel on the prequel to The Original Series, said in an interview (per ScreenRant): “No way! Not in a million years.
Bush continued by saying:
"They keep those things under lock and key. I think they're very, very special and very, very expensive. I would have loved to have kept my puppet, but I'm happy just to have the memories and the pictures.”
Bush also commented on the online users and Star Trek fans out there who would love to purchase their own replicas of the Strange New Worlds puppets. Bush said during the same interview: “Oh goodness! Imagine. Imagine that.”
For my money, I’d want to add the Captain Christopher Pike puppet (voiced by Anson Mount) to my collection simply because of his crazy and awesome hairdo. However, if push came to shove, and I could only purchase one Strange New Worlds “Muppet,” it would have to be T’Pring (Gia Sandu).
I mean the T’Pring puppet got to kiss and slap — twice — Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) all in the same episode, and I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed the normally logical Vulcan losing her mind at all the Enterprise’s emotional hijinks, as she put it.
My favorite scene with the T’Pring “Muppet” may very well be the one where she was desperate to help Spock. And even though she couldn’t fire a phaser because of her tiny puppet hands, that didn’t stop her from scooping up an armful of the weapons to give her former love to use against the Orion pirates invading the Enterprise.
