As Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' penultimate season nears, the cast is already talking about the end. And at this year's Comic Con Experience (CCXP) in Mexico City, Rebecca Romijn, who plays Una Chin-Riley, aka Number One, took part in an interview with Collider.
Romijn was asked if it was emotional filming the series finale and hinted there’s more than one powerful tale featured in season 5. The actress said (per Cinemablend):
"I think it wasn't just that one. I think there were several episodes in [season] 5. They did a great job of wrapping up a lot of character storylines in 5, and there are so many very, very, very emotional beats throughout season 5. It wasn't just the finale... There were a lot of tears in almost every episode of that season."
Una’s arc should be interesting since season 4 revealed she’d been in a romantic relationship with a Vulcan named Doug (Patton Oswalt). Fans also know that Number One was an inspiration for new Starfleet cadets, and she paved the way for the acceptance of Augments. That should be a good focus for the character as a symbol, while she just wants to do her job.
The big question is answering just what happened to Una after Pike left the USS Enterprise. This is a chance to show she may have become a captain in her own right, a terrific step forward for the character. We’ll see how it unfolds.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 premieres Thursday, July 23, on Paramount+.
