“I would love to. I would love to return to that character at any point.”
Sonequa Martin-Green is best known outside of the Star Trek franchise for playing Sasha on AMC’s The Walking Dead. However, even with her new gig on the sequel series to Blue Bloods, Boston Blue, the talented actress still wants to reprise the role of Michael Burnham from Star Trek: Discovery. Martin-Green said in a brand-new interview with ScreenRant:
“We've definitely had conversations. I would love to. I would love to return to that character at any point. Captain Michael Burnham, Admiral Michael Burnham, is like, ugh, my heart. I would love to do that. But at this point, it's a little more complicated because of the nature of things, and we'll see what Treks come from here. But yeah, I would definitely do it. I would do it. And Alex [Kurtzman] knows that too.”
Unless Burnham, who is Mr. Spock’s adopted sister, makes a surprise appearance in Starfleet Academy season 2, Star Trek fans will likely just have to wait to see the fan-favorite character once again. Personally, I don’t think Discovery was anywhere near as bad as some fans thought, but Burnham was undoubtedly the best part of the series.
However, just think about all the great characters and actors who moved on from Discovery to take part in Strange New Worlds: Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Spock (Ethan Peck), and Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn). Personally, I’d love to see Burnham make the trip back to the 23rd century and show up as a guest character in Strange New Worlds season 4 and/or 5.
After all, Martin-Green could have been secretly cast and on set for the final seasons of either SNW or SFA. Would you like to see Michael Burnham return, too? I know it's not likely, but it sure would be logical. Share your thoughts and comments with us on matter via the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.
Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
