“Some people use the Force… 🤨”
Science fiction fans often debate which is better: Star Trek or Star Wars. However, it just makes sense to enjoy both. Gene Roddenberry and George Lucas respectively created two of the most beloved sci-fi franchises of all time, but today (May 4) belongs to the latter. Yes, it’s Star Wars Day, and James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner, is raising his glass in an image posted to social media to celebrate the occasion.
The Star Trek icon toasted (via Instagram) and wrote, “Some people use the Force… 🤨 I prefer a well-timed toast and a five-year mission. 🥂 May the Fourth be with you… if you must but let’s be honest; I’ve been boldly going since before it was cool. 😉🚀”
As a lifelong Trekkie and fan of Star Wars, it warms my heart to see Shatner playfully celebrating May 4, while also acknowledging that Star Trek has been around a bit longer. Personally, I’d love to see an epic, sci-fi crossover between the two franchises happen one day, but it’s not easy to match up “a long, long time ago” and the 23rd through 32nd centuries.
For me, I’ll take what I can get. For those who haven’t seen them, an unofficial and hilarious Star Trek-Star Wars crossover happened back in 2020 when our beloved Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) matched wits with Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, in a series of must-see Uber Eats commercials. I’ve posted one below for fans to check out.
Name a more iconic duo than @hamillhimself and @sirpatstew, we’ll wait! pic.twitter.com/HHwKDFaMN3
