Jake Sisko

Cirroc Lofton is the only OG Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actor to return in Starfleet Academy’s fifth episode, “Series Acclimation Mil,” despite the inclusion of three DS9 characters. Grown-up Jake Sisko (Lofton) first appeared as a hologram while SAM (Kerrice Brooks) researched the mystery of Benjamin Sisko. Jake revealed that he didn’t know anything about the Emissary of the Prophets, during the visual recording, but he did share plenty of information about his father.

Jake spoke about his dad’s love of baseball and how he even punched Q (John de Lancie). However, it was only after Jay-Den (Karim Diane) told SAM that he’d discovered that Jake was working on a book, “Anslem,” that the stage was set for Professor Illa (Tawny Newsome) to reveal she possessed Jake’s unpublished written work.

As SAM leafed through the pages, Jake spoke directly to the Starfleet cadet about his father. This is the scene that will undoubtedly tug at the heartstrings of many Deep Space Nine fans. Yet, for me, it was the surprise revelation that Professor Illa is actually Dax that made the whole episode worthwhile. Yes, Dax lives on and is an instructor at Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. (Continued on page 3…)
