Tarima Sadal 'wears her heart on her sleeve'
Zoe Steiner’s Tarima Sadal appears to be the love interest of the show’s young protagonist, Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta). Steiner addressed her Betazoid role a bit while appearing at this year’s New York Comic Con, but she was careful not to let any spoilers slip. Steiner said (via TrekMovie.com):
“I play Tarima Sadal, who is a Betazoid, an empath. And it’s been the biggest privilege and gift to be able to play Tarima, because I feel so like her. When I got the script in the first place… I felt like I was looking into a mirror."
Steiner continued during the same panel:
"She wears her heart on her sleeve, like she cannot help it, even to her detriment. She feels things very deeply as a Betazoid. And I think that there’s a lot of power that can come with that, but she’s also terrified of that power. And we see her navigate that in this series.”
While Tarima isn’t actually a cadet at Starfleet Academy, I’m incredibly excited to see a Betazoid character front and center in the upcoming Star Trek series. I’m a huge fan of Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), particularly her Imzadi relationship with William Riker (Jonathan Frakes), so it’ll be interesting to see how Tarima and Caleb's romance develops over season 1.
