"A fearless leader with a rebellious streak."
Roll call! It’s time for Trekkies to get acquainted with yet another of Starfleet Academy's core-five cadets. Caleb Mir is the one and only human among the primary students, whose stories will unfold in the upcoming streaming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Caleb is being portrayed by newcomer Sandro Rosta, who was actually attending acting school when he nailed his audition to appear in the upcoming Trek drama. Rosta opened up a bit about his character during this year’s Star Trek universe panel at the New York Comic Con by saying (via TrekMovie.com):
“Caleb has a life outside of Starfleet Academy that is very, very rough, very instinctual, quite savage. And for the 15 years that he is alone, surviving on his own in the big, big galaxy out there, he has no need to rely on anyone else except for himself. So, when he confronts the reality of needing other people in his life and needing to have more of an open heart to growth and to allowing people in so that things can progress, I think it’s really difficult for him. I think that he has a lot of problems with it at the beginning.”
So, just how green is Rosta to the world of professional acting? Other than Starfleet Academy, the only other credit appearing on Rosta’s short resume is 2021's Snitches Get Stitches. Despite his inexperience in film and television, though, showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau were truly impressed by his audition. (Continued...)
