Star Trek: Starfleet Academy actors Kerrice Brooks and Karim Diane are defending their divisive series following the show's cancellation after its second season, which wrapped filming earlier this year. During Trek Talks 5, which benefits the Hollywood Food Coalition, Brooks said during the SFA panel (per ScreenRant):
"I’m not bummed about the cancellation because… it’s not like we were canceled [because of quality]. We weren’t a bad show. Sometimes, s**t just doesn’t work out. Sometimes, it just doesn’t work out. But I do think, yeah, we were a great show."
"We ate," Diane added. "But our show is perfect, baby."
Brooks: "I think our show is f*****g phenomenal."
Diane: "Our show is phenomenal."
Despite the bias, it seems these young actors are on the beam. It is a phenominal show, and I believe that it's a case of great show versus bad timing.
It seems like with every episode that aired, the Nus Brakas of the world (especially online, where anonymity gives people free rein to mock the actors and be openly hateful) piled on so much vitriol that even veteran actors like Kate Mulgrew stood up to them!
Starfleet Academy is a wonderful example of Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations (IDIC), with young people discovering not only other places and experiences, but discovering themselves as well.
Unfortunately, we are living in a time where being different or expressing oneself openly isn't encouraged enough. It's my sincere hope that others who love the show will continue to support it, no matter the outcome.
