5. Jay-Den Kraag

Jay-Den Kraag is unlike any Klingon we’ve seen in Starfleet and not just because of his sexuality. Jay-Den bucks all the tropes of Klingons that Trek has taken for granted. He has a warrior’s spirit, but he wants to be a medic, to help rather than harm. That’s made him an outcast among his people, yet Jay-Den sees his calling as a higher honor than combat could give him.
The character is more personable than a typical Klingon, and while he still needs to work on his bedside manner, Jay-Den’s heart is evident. It’s a fascinating direction for the Klingons, added on by how The Burn ravaged the Klingon Empire, so they need to rebuild, which means new directions that Jay-Den can take them.
Karem Diane is captivating in the role, and it's no wonder Jay-Den has become one of SFA’s best characters. Far more than some “token” character, Jay-Den’s depth and bucking Klingon traditions make it hopeful he can return to Star Trek sometime.
