Nahla Ake, is the most eccentric captain we have seen in Star Trek. As a Lanthanite, Ake is 422 years old with a wide variety of experiences. Ake’s years of existence have given her an inability to sit in a chair normally, and a zest for life that makes her far less serious than any leading captain we have seen in Star Trek.

Ake is haunted by her allowing for the separation of Caleb Mir from his mother. The Starfleet Chancellor and captain of the USS Athena has a soft spot for Mir, and she views greatness in him. The on-screen chemistry between the two characters is excellent. You can feel the care that is developing on both sides. Ake is going to be the anchor for this show as a consistently grounded character.
