Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has received a divisive reaction from the fandom. However, in a recent Instagram post (below), Rebecca Quin, better known as WWE superstar Becky Lynch, took it to the haters as only she could. Lynch wrote:
"Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is a MAJOR HIT!! People from all over the world, and all walks of life, can’t get enough of this AMAZING show! Of course, when you’re the GREATEST (like me), you’re gonna have TROLLS that want rain on your parade. MUST BE all Maxxine fans; they really DO HATE FUN. SO SAD!!!"
Lynch popped up in the first episode of the new series as Lt. Ya, a bridge officer on the USS Athena. We don’t know much about her character yet, but hopefully she’ll show up again, although Lynch would have to work it around her very busy WWE schedule.
Lynch’s words cite how Starfleet Academy has been met by a divisive reaction from sections of the fandom. Indeed, that very Instagram post is filled with comments that go beyond negative into truly toxic territory.
One thing to remember is Lynch is in character as an arrogant “heel," which is a wrestling term for a bad guy. So, of course, she’s going to sound over the top and boastful while insulting people. Yet it’s a genius way to mock the “fans” hating Starfleet Academy for the wrong reasons.
