The Redshirts Always Die Star Trek: Starfleet Academy roll call continues with Darem Reymi. Darem is portrayed by George Hawkins, and his character is a Khionian from a world of wealth. The apparent riches don't diminish Darem's drive as he possesses a competitive soul, which is without question one of the characteristics needed for someone aspiring to command.
And Hawkins teased what Trekkies can expect to see from Darem while attending the Star Trek universe panel at this year’s New York Comic Con. The actor said (via TrekMovie.com):
“Darem is defined by competition and achievement. He finds his value in gaining and doing instead of being. And that’s such an exciting thing to play for me. I find so many parallels in my life where I feel valued when I’m doing, or when I’m doing something like this – where you are so valuable just by being, right?”
Hawkins, who served as an executive producer and appeared in 2023’s crime drama Gassed Up, also addressed Darem’s relationships with his fellow Starfleet Academy classmates while on the stage at NYCC. The actor said:
“As for conflict with Darem, because he is so driven to prove himself, these other cadets are an instrument in proving himself and his reputation that they’re sadly, to be used by Darem. Darem is there to run them over to prove a point. And that’s a really scary [expletive] thing to do, man. And it has been so exciting to play, just taking up the room and being big, being loud, being a little bit aggressive. It was so exciting.”
Like some of his other Starfleet Academy co-stars, Hawkins is relatively new to the Hollywood scene. However, some fans from across the pond may recognize this newest Trek member from the British teen-focused television drama, Tell Me Everything.
Hawkins portrays but one of these five cadets who will be at the heart of the new streaming show. Now, that you're learning a little more about these up-and-coming characters, are you as excited as I am to check out the latest entry in the Trek universe?
