Warning! The following contains SPOILERS from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy season 1.
MovieWeb let a Ceti Alpha V-sized Deep Space Nine spoiler out of the bag during the press tour for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy in a video that was finally taken down. And, now, it appears the online publication isn’t through accidentally spoiling fans' enjoyment of the series before they’ve had a chance to watch it for themselves.
Yes, another interesting tidbit (spoiler) was revealed in a new video posted by the Valnet website yesterday (Jan. 13), which has to do with the true alien form of an Academy’s human-looking cadet being revealed in season 1. If you don’t want to know who the spoiler refers to, read no further.
The MovieWeb video titled Starfleet Academy Cast on Identity & Belonging featured three of the show’s cast members (George Hawkins, Kerrice Brooks, Sandro Rosta), who were coincidentally interviewed by the same reporter who conducted the sit-down revealing the DS9 spoiler in episode 5.
The reporter again brought up how he loved episode 5 of the series, but this time he questioned Hawkins about how his character, cadet Darem Reymi, reveals his true Khionian form in Starfleet Academy season 1. It's widely known that Hawkins is portraying a brand-new alien in the Star Trek universe but there was never any confirmation about Darem's true form — until now.
Reporter Joe Deckelmeier said: “George, for you, we meet Darem in human form before seeing that he’s a true Khionian — before we see his true Khionian appearance. Why is hiding necessary for him? And what does that say about belonging in this future Federation?”
Hawkins commended the interviewer for his questions, and the actor also confirmed Darem does reveal his Khionian form in season 1.
However, as a journalist who understands the need to mark interviews like this as containing spoilers, which clearly was not done by whoever edited and posted the MovieWeb video, I wonder if Starfleet Academy showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau are going to appreciate this kind of information leaking before the first episode has even dropped for the public to watch.
