Star Trek actor likens his character to a beloved Star Wars Jedi

A Jedi he is not, but an interesting comparison all the same it is.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy drops on Paramount Plus in just over a week’s time, and the inclusion of a beloved legacy character can only help the streaming show’s chances. Yes, Robert Picardo reprises his role as The Doctor from Star Trek: Voyager and more recently Star Trek: Prodigy.

And in a recent interview discussing the beloved Emergency Medical Hologram’s return, Picardo actually compared The Doctor to Jedi Master Yoda of Star Wars fame. The actor said in an interview with SFX Magazine via Cinemablend:

“I decided that the character was a deeper version of himself, but he still had the same humor, the same disdain for people he felt were not keeping up with the discussion, but also the deeper aspect of generations of life experience. I suppose I’m the Yoda of the Star Trek franchise – except I’m not green and hopefully my ears are not quite as big.”

The Doctor doesn't have Jedi powers like Yoda, but I understand Picardo's meaning. However, other than the fact that both characters are each approximately 900 years old, I know who I'd rather have facing off against Starfleet Academy's villainous Nus Braka in a fight. And, no, it is not our beloved EMH. Regardless of his fighting skills not being on par with Yoda's abilities, I still love the fact that The Doctor is in! (Continued...)
