The Star Trek franchise has lost some fine actors over the years, from the late and lamented icon Leonard Nimoy to beloved multi-series guest stars like Mark Lenard. One who left us much too soon is Aron Eisenberg, who passed away in 2019 of heart failure caused by kidney disease at age 50.

Eisenberg, who played the young Ferengi Nog on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, would sometimes improvise during his scenes. Recently, Jorg Hillebrand, a Star Trek: Picard research assistant and overall fan of the franchise, noticed something familiar in the Starfleet Academy episode "300th Night," noting on Threads:

"If you need some cheering up, watch the first few moments of Starfleet Academy's "300th Night"⬅️ and look for the Ferengi cadet performing Nog's Ferengi dance from #StarTrekDS9's "You Are Cordially Invited"➡️. This was completely improvised by the late great Aron Eisenberg - never forgotten!"

Hillebrand also posted side-by-side photos of the two scenes, proving that great dance moves never die, nor do the memories of a beloved actor who took a minor role in Deep Space Nine and made it his own.

Many Star Trek fans, myself included, often watch for Easter eggs when a new series comes out because you can almost always notice them, especially during rewatches. One example is the plaque on the Voyager bridge, where viewers can spot Gene Roddenberry listed as Chief of Staff!

I think we fans like to watch for these callbacks because it's soothing to know that even when our beloved actors die — Rene Auberjonois was a tough one for me — the characters they put so much of themselves into live on.

We can revisit them again and again, and when we recognize an Easter egg, it's like recognizing some beloved family inside joke that warms our hearts and brings back some great memories. And it was certainly heartwarming to see a young Ferengi cadet replicating Nog's dance moves nearly 30 years later to celebrate "300th Night."
