“WE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT 🤣.”

One of the best things about social media is that Star Trek fans have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of their favorite actors’ real lives away from those glorious science fiction sets. And on April 6, Starfleet Academy’s own Lura Thok, Gina Yashere, shared some wonderful images and must-see videos (below) from her Costa Rican marriage to Nina Rose Fischer. Yashere posted the following on her official Instagram account and wrote:

“So... Me & Ninja did a thing..... Thought we'd do a lil casual wedding here in Costa Rica. Just a tiny thing, couple close friends & fam. Super casual. No shoes allowed. Sneaks & flip flops only. 45 of my friends & fam flew in from London alone! Plus another 20 of our friends from the US. It was like a scene from Jaws. WE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BOAT 🤣.”

Yashere continued by writing:

“Booked a beautiful restaurant on the beach @cahuita_inn for the ceremony, and the after-party at the house. Threw a Marquee over the pickleball court, lights, flowers & BOOM. We've never felt so loved & blessed. Wonderful day. We couldn't be happier. In my new Spanish; ESTOY CASADA Y CANSADA 🤣 Pura Vida 💍💍”

It’s wonderful that Yashere, who portrays the USS Athena’s first officer/Starfleet Academy’s outspoken cadet master, and her new bride are so happy. The Central American backdrop was absolutely stunning, and I thought Yashere looked dazzling draped in emerald.

I also love Fischer's subtle yet sumptuous crown and appreciate her green nail polish, which tied together nicely with Yashere's outfit and color scheme. However, as a lifelong Star Trek fan, I was disappointed not to see any of her Starfleet Academy co-stars in the footage or photographs.

I’m excited to watch more of Yashere’s female Jem’Hadar in season 2 of SFA, and I wish the lucky couple all the best in their marriage.
