Should Trekkies really care what the Homeland Security Advisor thinks about Star Trek?

This editorial addresses Stephen Miller’s comments about saving the franchise.

Okay, I don’t know Mr. Stephen Miller, and I don’t have a clue if he’s actually a Star Trek fan. First, what I do agree with, in regard to what he wrote on X, is that William Shatner should come back and play a meaningful part in the franchise again. Translation: Shatner’s version of Captain James T. Kirk needs to return.

Heck, maybe Kirk will show up in one of the new films Paramount Skydance announced. I don’t know, but what I do know is that Miller’s statement about Shatner achieving “total creative control” of Star Trek is one of the most absurd things I could have ever imagined coming out of a White House official’s mouth.

I hope Mr. Miller was kidding. Perhaps our Homeland Security Advisor has a sense of humor, but, again, I don’t know the gentleman. However, based on all the accounts from professional creatives over the years, who have worked with Shatner, a modern-day Trek with the legacy actor in total control would be tantamount to fans seeing strictly shots of Shatner on the screen — and nothing more.
