Should Trekkies really care what the Homeland Security Advisor thinks about Star Trek?

Star Trek co-stars like George Takei, Catherine Hicks — who loves Mr. Shatner — and others have addressed Shatner’s need to be in EVERY shot even when his character is not the center of attention on screen. I love Shatner, but can you imagine how Captain Spock’s death in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan would have played out if Shatner had been given, as Mr. Miller puts it, “total creative control?”

I suspect, if Shatner had his way, Admiral Kirk wouldn’t have even been on the bridge while the USS Enterprise tried to escape the Genesis-induced Reliant explosion. Given the stories I’ve read over the years about Shatner as a co-star, Kirk would have been right there in the engineering section when Spock mind-melded with Dr. McCoy during those two characters’ pivotal “remember” scene (Continued...)
