1. Nahla Ake and Nus Braka

The old saying is “there’s a thin line between love and hate," but that line blurs with Nahla Ake and Nus Braka. The Starfleet captain and the criminal mastermind had sensational chemistry thanks to Paul Giamatti and Holly Hunter’s excellent performances.

Nus and Nahla's relationship was always charged when they faced off, even via holograms, with Giamatti's scenery-chewing clashing with Hunter's more laid-back yet strident turn. Despite Nus's epic speech on how much he loathed Ake and the Federation, there was some underlying tension between them that made you wonder if they were about to make out.

The pair’s verbal battles were filled with sharp barbs, each knowing how to push the other’s buttons. It was a game of one-upmanship as they matched wits, and Braka was the one person able to rattle Ake, who'd respond with her more cunning language.

A brief partnership showed a different side to this relationship, but it still ended with Ake punching Braka in the season finale. Giamatti and Hunter clearly made this one of the best hero-villain conflicts in recent Trek history.
