Karim Diane provides insight into his character, Starfleet Cadet Jay-Den Kraag.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is only days away from its streaming debut, and the latest entry in the beloved science fiction franchise will feature a young Klingon cadet among its roster of core-five characters which the show will focus on. Karim Diane portrays Jay-Den Kraag, and the actor loves “playing a different version of a Klingon.”
Diane elaborated in a new interview with Comic Book Resources by saying:
"I really enjoy when people have expectations, and we completely just shatter it, just break it to pieces and watch it crumble. I mean, I love playing a different version of a Klingon. I think it's beautiful, and it really shows you that there is no one way to be anything. You can be exactly who you are, and that's the best version of you."
Diane also said in the same interview with CBR:
"We, traditionally, have always seen Klingons be warriors, but healers have kind of always been there, like we've seen Klingon philosophers, or, like we've seen different versions of Klingons on the show. We've just never really locked in and focused on, you know, a Klingon healer. So, this is not really new. It's been in canon, but now we're exploring it deeper." (Continued...)
