The cadets have a difficult choice to make in the next installment of Lost Contact.
More Star Trek: Starfleet Academy stories are unfolding in the pages of IDW’s five-issue run Lost Contact. Set prior to the cadets’ life-and-death encounter with the Furies, it turns out both the Klingon Jay-Den Kraag and the War College’s Kyle Jokovich have gone missing on a strange new world in issue No. 3 of the upcoming comic book. The synopsis reads as follows (per Amazon).
“Cadets Jay-Den and Kyle have gone missing, and if Genesis, Caleb, and Tarima weren’t battling against the harsh environment of S'Eekay II conducting a search-and-rescue of one of their hastier instructors, and creating a whole new form of communicating with each other in the silencing force field around the planet, they might have noticed sooner. Now they’ll need to make a choice: Wait for the Academy to come rescue them all…or go save their crewmates and friends from what surely is a hostile alien kidnapping.”
For those who aren’t familiar with the streaming series Starfleet Academy, Jay-Den and Kyle are romantically involved, which was a sore spot for many trolls and fans of the Star Trek franchise. SFA introducing the first gay Klingon opened up the possibility of this relationship evolving, which I had hoped to see play out even more in the pages of Lost Contact.
Unfortunately, Lost Contact issue No. 3 is set well before the season 1 finale of Starfleet Academy. However, I’m still curious to see what conversations take place between Jay-Den and Kyle while they’re separated from the others on S'Eekay II.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy — Lost Contact No. 3 drops on Wednesday, June 24, and fans can now preorder the Kindle version for only $4.99 on Amazon. Issues No. 4 and No. 5 will be released in July and August respectively, but have you read the other installments yet?
