Meet Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's power couple.
Lura Thok is unquestionably one of the most controversial characters on Starfleet Academy. As it turns out, segments of the fandom are surprisingly in an uproar over the fact that actress Gina Yashere is portraying a female Jem’Hadar, which shouldn’t be possible since they weren’t capable of procreating in the past.
However, Thok, who is also half-Klingon, is one of my favorite characters. And the fact that she’s hooking up with the Academy’s Commander/Professor Reno (Tig Notaro) makes the cadet master’s storyline even more appealing to watch. Talk about a 32nd century power couple: both are integral to the education of Starfleet's young recruits. And Yashere said of Lura and Jett Reno's relationship in an interview with ScreenRant:
“Episode 3 [‘Vitus Reflux’], you'll see that there is a relationship. Lura and Jett are in a relationship, and you'll see that when a dinner conversation comes up. And you'll see different facets of Lura's personality. You get the drill sergeant, ‘Full Metal Jacket,’ screaming at the kid characters, but then you also see her softening around Jett. And you'll see she gets a little bit more coquettish and a little bit more flirty around her. So, you'll see different facets of Lura that you might not have thought were possible.” Continued on page 2...
