As much as some fans may deride Star Trek: Starfleet Academy on the whole, even the haters have to acknowledge “Series Acclimation Mil” was a terrific hour of television. First, giving the spotlight to Kerrice Brooks and her unique living hologram SAM character was brilliant.

SAM’s quest to learn the fate of Benjamin Sisko served as a grand love letter to Deep Space Nine, reminding fans why that show was so magical. The episode also benefited from the welcome appearance of Cirroc Lofton as a hologram of Jake Sisko, with the actor clearly enjoying being back in the role.

"Series Acclimation Mil" also featured the surprise return of another key DS9 character in Dax, as a link to the past.

By showing the man behind the legend of Sisko, SFA did a fantastic tribute to one of the best Star Trek shows ever, while carving its own mark on Trek lore.
