2. Doctor/Voyager tribute episode

At first, the addition of Robert Picardo as the holographic Doctor looked like a nostalgia grab for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Picardo still had The Doctor's dry humor, which was used for more comedic scenes.
However, that changed in “The Life of the Stars” episode, which already boasted a great guest appearance from Discovery’s scene-stealing Tilly (Mary Wiseman). There was also an examination of the cadets' personal issues and of Tarima Sadal joining the Academy.
But the meat of the tale came when SAM began glitching due to a life-threatening condition. The Doctor bonded with her and in a powerful scene, discussed the holographic family he created on Voyager.
Picardo was stellar in the entire sequence, with The Doctor ending up becoming a father to the reprogrammed SAM. This must-see episode was a well-penned second chance for The Doctor to build on a family bond that Voyager fans had missed.
