It's hard to believe that Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is finally here. The first two episodes are now available on Paramount+, but there's so much more, including interviews with the cast, such as Paul Giamatti. And the Hollywood veteran had nothing but praise for his co-star, Holly Hunter, as the Starfleet Academy actors appeared at the show's blue carpet premiere. Giamatti said via Etalk:
When asked about working with Hunter, Giamatti instantly replied, "Genius!" His enthusiasm was obvious as he went on to say, "She's an amazing actress. She's also a really great person to hang out with. But she's super passionate, and she loves to rehearse. So, you actually work on stuff."
"She's kind of a genius," Giamatti continued. "She's fantastic!" When you consider the long list of awards she's won in movies and television, including the Best Actress Oscar (Leading Role) for The Piano, Hunter's genius is difficult to deny.
While I'm definitely excited about the return of Tig Notaro and Robert Picardo, the idea of Hunter and Giamatti playing off each other all season is also a definite draw!
Giamatti's Nus Braka, a Klingon/Tellarite hybrid antagonist, is going to challenge Hunter's character, Nahla Ake (commander of the USS Athena and Starfleet chancellor), in ways fans probably won't expect! It's also exciting to have a fresh villain for the new series instead of having to rely on tired, recycled cliches.
