Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is now available to watch on Paramount+, and some of the most fascinating aspects from the premiere were the scenes between Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) and Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter).
Behind the scenes, however, Holly Hunter has nothing but praise for her co-star. When Etalk caught up with Hunter during the show's recent blue carpet world premiere in New York City, she revealed what it's like to work with Giamatti, saying, "He is so inventive, he's so loose. Um, we just had a ball. And he's incredible! He's incredible in the role, um, and imbues the story with such a sense of humor for such a bad guy. I mean, he's a delight."
George Takei's infamous and ongoing feud with William Shatner began long ago, on the set of Star Trek: The Original Series. Shatner, who's known for his ego trips, didn't always get along with everyone, and there were instances of problems behind the scenes of Star Trek: Voyager as well.
When this kind of drama escalates, the series suffers. So, it's gratifying for us fans to see camaraderie among the Starfleet Academy cast, particularly between its two biggest stars, Hunter and Giamatti, especially in these early months when it's crucial for a show to find its audience.
Have you watched Starfleet Academy yet? Who's your favorite character so far? Mine is cadet master Lura Thok (Gina Yashere). Lura reminds me of Elaan from the TOS episode "Elaan of Troyius" before she learns to mind her manners.
