What do you get when you cross a Tellarite with a Klingon? You get Star Trek: Starfleet Academy's Nus Braka. Paul Giamatti, who will play the hybrid character in the upcoming series, had a lot to say about developing Braka's personality during the CCXP event in Sao Paulo, Brazil earlier this month according to TrekMovie.com.
Of Braka, Giamatti told the panel's audience, “He’s a very damaged human being. I think he has mother issues. I think he needs a mother, which is why I’m fixated on Holly Hunter so much. I have a strange fixation on Holly Hunter.”
Hunter plays Nahla Ake on the series, who serves as both the chancellor of Starfleet Academy and the captain of the USS Athena. The starship doubles as the school's primary campus.
Giamatti seems excited to take on this role, which he describes as being chaotic and over the top. This makes sense when you cross two of the most aggressive species in the Star Trek universe. Remember Ambassador Gav from the Star Trek: The Original Series episode "Journey To Babel?" Cross Gav with a Klingon woman and you end up with a rude, bossy individual with really terrible skin problems. (Continued...)
