A star of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is opening up on how the show is a perfect entry point to the franchise, which is needed! As the countdown to Starfleet Academy continues, the excitement is growing for this new chapter in the acclaimed franchise. There is a question of how new fans may take to this story set in the far future, which focuses on the latest class of Starfleet Academy learning the ropes to space travel.
At the CCXP event in Sao Paolo, Brazil, Paul Giamatti, who plays the show’s main villain, Nus Braka, was asked about the series. A longtime fan of Star Trek, Giamatti discussed the franchise’s values and how the new series plays on that. Giamatti said via TrekMovie.com: “It’s a good entry point, because you don’t need to know a whole lot."
Giamatti continued:
"You can watch it without needing to know a lot, and you’ll learn a lot. Starfleet Academy–throughout all the other series–is the basis of everything about the Federation. All the values of the all the adventuring and boldly going. All of this stuff comes from Starfleet. So you’ll learn about the whole [franchise] if you watch it. But it’s its own thing. So it’s a good entry point.”
Giamatti's words are promising as they address a key stumbling block for some Star Trek series which can be judged as being tough for newbies to get into. (Continued...)
