Starfleet Academy's 'Come, Let's Away' is way better than its low rating (and this is why)

This SFA episode deserves a far better rating than 6.7/10 stars.

2. Characters are allowed to shine

"Come, Let's Away" also does a good job of letting characters play to their strengths. Caleb uses his smarts and the help of some programmable matter to get the systems at least partially online. This action earns him praise from the laughably and sadly short lived War College trainer/observer, Tomov. May the Koala protect you, sir. *See Star Trek: Lower Decks for context, and a generally good time!

Similarly, SAM gets a chance to use her skills as a photonic being to plug herself into the computer; completing the computations faster than any physical being could ever achieve. Though SAM is later impacted by her choice to link with the ship, she does so because she knows it is their best option to save her friends.
