Starfleet Academy's 'Come, Let's Away' is way better than its low rating (and this is why)

This SFA episode deserves a far better rating than 6.7/10 stars.

4. B'Avi

B’Avi, a Vulcan War College cadet and frequent antagonist, made quite an impact in this episode. We discover his love of Starfleet comics and who can blame him? The episode also reveals his deep ingrained loyalty for his fellow cadets.

Later, he quotes Spock’s famous, “...needs of the many…” to Caleb. Had this been done in a different way, this may have felt shoehorned in just to quote a legacy character. However, it really works in this scene. Spock may be a “legacy” character to us the fans. However, as a Vulcan growing up with stories of the Federation, Spock was approaching mythological status in B'Avi's eyes.

While we may not have gotten a long time with B’Avi throughout the season, it did feel that we got to know him. His death brings weight and the reality that even at the Academy, this is serious and sometimes good people die. The final heart breaking moment comes when Kyle, friend and fellow War College cadet, places a physical print comic book on B'Avi's coffin.
