7. 'Ko'Zeine'
After the dramatic previous episode, this was a needed “breather” storyline. As such, the stakes aren’t too high as Jay-Den Kraag follows Darem when it looks like his fellow classmate has been kidnapped.
Instead, Darem brought to the Sunset Moon of his home world to fulfill an arranged marriage. While we don’t get to see his race in their natural forms, the episode is strong in building the Jay-Den/Darem bromance. The two actors are wonderful in their scenes. Darem realizes he’s better off at the Academy, and there is fantastic growth for both characters.
The “B plot” of Caleb and Genesis bonding while staying at the Academy is also nicely written, with the two outcasts forming a connection. The revelation of Genesis’ secret fear of not being good enough explains much of her character and deepens her bonds. Plus, we get the confirmation that Jett Reno and Lura Thok are a couple. While not as top-notch as the episodes before and after it, this installment emphasizes the character dynamics well.
