One thing fans of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy can be assured of is that this show is getting a second season. It was renewed before season 1 was even released and promises to continue the adventures of the young cadets in a revived 32nd-century Starfleet.
Talking to TrekMovie.com, executive producer Olatunde Osunsanmi teased how season 2 is going to work as the “sophomore” year for the characters and the series.
"I think if season 1 of Starfleet Academy is your freshman year, then season 2 of Starfleet Academy is your sophomore year. So if you can think back to what you went through as a freshman in college versus what you went through as a sophomore college, that’s the major vibe shift between the two seasons."
When asked if this meant the characters would be older and wiser, Osunsanmi clarified by saying, "They’re definitely older and they’re definitely better at the things that they’re learning to do."
So far, we’ve seen the cadets experiencing conflicts, especially between Caleb Mir and Darem Reymi, while learning more about being part of Starfleet. It only makes sense that the first year marks the start of their journey, and the second year sees them grow into their roles.
So even as Starfleet Academy is just starting, it’s clear the showrunners plan for further years to see this school class blossom into something great!
