Post-Burn Starfleet faces an unspeakable threat on “300th Night,” which Voyager fans will understand clearly.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’s penultimate season 1 episode, “300th Night,” waves the nostalgia wand yet again, specifically at the fans of Voyager. However, this time, instead of weaving together a heartwarming tribute centered around The Doctor (Robert Picardo) becoming a caring father to SAM (Kerrice Brooks), director Jonathan Frakes’ must-see cliffhanging episode addresses the deadly Omega phenomenon, which was explored on screen nearly 30 years ago.
For those not familiar with just how dangerous of a weapon was just introduced, Voyager’s season 4 episode, “The Omega Directive,” featured Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) in a desperate race to destroy the dangerous phenomenon, following Starfleet’s secretive directive, because she knew knowledge of the Omega molecules existence couldn’t be allowed to spread further. Unfortunately, the threat remains in the 32nd century some 800 years later.
In the latest installment of Starfleet Academy, Admiral Vance (Oded Fehr) revealed that Nus Braka (Paul Giamatti) and the Venari Ral weaponized a “synthetic variant of pure Omega,” into Omega-47 mines which, if detonated, would mean a million years before warp travel could be possible again in the quadrant — if ever.
