Nov. 2, 2015 – CBS Television Studios announced today it will launch a totally new “Star Trek” television series in January 2017. The brand-new “Star Trek” will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966. The new series will blast off with a special preview broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The premiere episode and all subsequent

“The Final Frontier has some boundaries that shouldn’t be crossed, and we’re looking at one,” Captain Janeway (Mulgrew) once said to Tuvok (Tim Russ) about the Omega, in Star Trek: Voyager, comparing its explosive, destructive power to that of the Genesis Device created by doctors Carol (Bibi Besch) and David Marcus (Merritt Butrick).

Personally, I think incorporating the Omega molecules into Starfleet Academy was a great way to honor Voyager while also presenting an unprecedented threat for our heroes to face off against in next week’s season finale on March 12.

The Omega is a threat to the entire galaxy, not just the Federation, and a single molecule contains the same power as that of a warp core! I love how the stakes were upped while also honoring Voyager again.

However, since The Doctor (Picardo) was in that classic Voyager episode nearly 30 years ago, he possesses the knowledge to destroy the molecules: a gravimetric photon torpedo. Well, at least, it worked on a smaller scale in “The Omega Directive."

Are you as excited as I am to witness the season 1 finale now that the deadly Omega threat has been revealed? What did you think of the clever homage to Voyager? Share your thoughts and comments with us on the Redshirts Always Die Facebook and X pages.

Live long and prosper, Trekkies!
