The new Stargazer: A Star Trek Story webcomic is here, plus three of the 40 Deep Space 9-set stories are currently available on WEBTOON to enjoy for free at the time of this writing. And writer Jarrett Melendez promises future readers of this young adult romance that they won’t need to know anything about Star Trek to enjoy the new comics. Melendez said of Stargazers in an interview with SYFY Wire:

"It's a much more peaceful time on Deep Space 9. I think it doesn't have quite as much of the darkness that you saw in the series. There are still bad actors aboard the station. It's up to a group of plucky young teens to figure out what's going on."

Melendez continued by saying:

“You don't have to know a thing about Trek. You don't even really have to know what Deep Space 9 is. You just have to know that this story is set on a space station and it's about civilian teens trying to figure out what to do with their lives.”

I checked out the first three installments of Stargazers on WEBTOON’s website, and I believe the new webcomic will definitely appeal to those science fiction and Star Trek fans who also fancy YA romances.

Plus, for those readers who download and use the WEBTOON app, they will also have access to five "Fast Pass episodes."

Star Trek also posted a better look at Stargazers' core characters on Instagram (below), which also includes an image of the adorable Alfie, who is a dog named after the horn-headed Alfa 177 canine from The Original Series episode, "The Enemy Within."

And for those curious about reading Stargazers, the synopsis reads as follows (per WEBTOON):

“Leon's a sweet, handsome guy who wants to experience all that life in the cosmos has to offer, along with his friends and adorable pup Alfie. His uptight and annoyingly-handsome friend Syrrik, however, wants to join the prestigious ranks of Starfleet as soon as possible - just as his father expects."

The Stargazers synopsis continues as follows:

"But when a station-wide conspiracy threatens everything they know, Leon and Syrrik need to lean on each other in ways they might not expect! Will their friendship buckle under this pressure, or will it become something more?”
