Stargazers: A Star Trek Story episode 11 (Redshirts review)

Emotions abound in this chapter as Syrrik faces a future that isn't as clear cut as it once was.

3. Character development

Both Syrrik and Leon are developing in leaps and bounds, by the time readers reach Stargazers episode 11, even if each is unsure about where such bounding will take them.

Leon's decision to defend his love of cooking makes him seem a bit more mature in this episode. Of course, since Kenga nearly had to choke him out in the previous chapter to bring him out of a dramatic moment, Leon's clearly not grown quite yet, which makes since this is a young adult comic.

It's Syrrik who faces the most significant character growth in episode 11. In the past, he'd seen joining and serving Starfleet as the end-all, be-all of life because that's what Jato had raised him to believe.

Now, thanks to Leon's devotion to his own hobbies, Syrrik sees that while one star might shine a bit brighter than the rest, it's not the only one in the galaxy.

Unfortunately, poor Syrrik is trapped in a web of his own making. He wants to keep seeing Jato as a good man and a good father, but cracks are starting to widen in that viewpoint. How can every moment be about working and duty and obedience?

Yet, how can it not be because that's what his father says? These changes in his thoughts drive his continued character development. One thing is for sure, he's either going to smooch or punch Leon, which is where this chapter leaves off. I'm so invested in this story!
