3. Character development: Who's growing, who's not?
One of the most enjoyable parts of writing is world-building and creating characters who find themselves on an lifechanging journey. There's plenty of character growth in Stargazers, but I think the most drastic is happening to Syrrik at the moment.
At the start of the YA series, he was as rigid as his father, but as Leon slowly draws him out. He's becoming softer and widening his view beyond Starfleet. Unfortunately, he's now terrified of Jato. That last panel in the chapter where Syrrik ducks his father and cowers, hiding, gave me an emotional gut punch that I wasn't ready for.
While Jato makes a fine foil for Deep Space 9 at large, the relationship he has with Syrrik is falling apart. He might only now start to understand that his son is turning toward something that he can't understand.
Authority is a powerful thing, and what Jato likely sees as the pinnacle of success. It's also what makes him such a jerk at this point in the webcomic series. I don't expect him to change much in upcoming chapters, unless some Hail Mary connection happens between himself and Syrrik.
