3. Shifting artwork styles enhance character emotions
The artwork for Stargazers episode 18 brings plenty of laughs, especially when Leon tells Syrrik about the importance of fashion choices and how clothing can reflect your tastes, change how you look, and even represent one's culture.
This moves Syrrik to pull up his tunic as he ponders how he'd look in a crop top, and the perfect six-pack abs this reveals makes Leon's face absolutely glow. His expression suggests that what he's looking at is a perfect 10.
When the waitress at the door of Zimmerman's restaurant approaches, she asks, "Did you two want a table, or . . . ?" Both Leon and Syrrik get pulled back to their surroundings, and the artwork here is clever because Syrrik's face vanishes into heavy blush lines that obliterate his features for several panels.
My favorite panel in this chapter is Syrrik imagining himself, chibi style, dressed in a potato sack, in a catwalk pose. It's almost as funny as him bringing up a photo of Alfie to talk to because he's seen that Leon talks his problems over with the fabulous Frenchie all the time. This chapter definitely got some laughs out of me.
