1. Character development
Episode 2 of Stargazers begins with a brief recap of Syrrik pausing to consider some hurtful things he'd said about Leon's father, such as how writing holodeck programs made him lead "a black hole of existence." Leon remains quiet as he and Churi, his best friend, return to Leon's quarters to install a pet door for Alfie.
When Churi presses him about what Syrrik said, Leon insists that it didn't bother him. However, when they reach the quarters, Leon's emotions do a 180-degree turn that's so relatable it had me laughing the entire scene!
While Churi works on the pet door, Leon starts a "It doesn't bother me, what do I care . . . but another thing about that guy!" one-sided conversation about Syrrik. He might as well have gone into the hallway and shouted to everyone within earshot about how much he didn't care!
Leon's character grows in this chapter, but slowly, as he reveals that there might be more to his feelings about Syrrik than he has yet to understand. He calls Syrrik's eyes "dazzling" and "galaxy-like," as if that's how we all talk about our rivals. At the same time, what do we fan-fiction readers love more than a rivals-to-lovers arc?
Episode 2 also introduces new characters, such as DS9's beauty salon technicians MeeMee and Kenga. They reminded me of Karen Walker and Grace Adler from Will & Grace, only Kenga can change her entire appearance with the shake of her head. I also have a feeling that Kenga will have a major role in helping Leon find his true self.
