3. Storytelling
The storytelling arc in episode 2 of Stargazers gives readers a better idea of how those who live on DS9 spend their days in situations we can all relate to, such as the young woman in the salon wanting a new hairstyle because her boyfriend broke up with her. And of course his name was Chad.
My favorite storytelling moment from this episode is when Leon rushes into the salon and tells Kenga, "I want to try wearing makeup," after admiring how the young man in the gym wore some so beautifully.
The word choice here is important because instead of asking, "Is it weird that I want to wear makeup?" or "Is it wrong for me to wear makeup?" Leon gives an "I" statement that puts doubt and gender arguments aside. Leon knows what he wants to do, and his expression of joy mixed with curiosity in that moment makes Leon a unique and believable character, if not yet fully formed.
