1. Artwork

While storytelling usually takes center stage in Stargazers, episode 3's artwork truly shines and gives us excellent continued insight into Leon's character. He's becoming braver about discovering who he truly is, and it's apparent through his body language and facial expressions, as well as those of his friends: MeeMee, Kenga, and Churi as they react to that bravery!

The shape of their speaking bubbles, such as using jagged lines when one of the characters is angry or shouting, only lends to the authenticity of their emotions, which I find a nuanced touch! My favorite set of panels in this episode is toward the beginning, when MeeMee, Kenga, and their client listen to Leon info-dump about Ino, including how strong and interesting he is.

At one point, a bucket of popcorn appears between MeeMee and the client, which they both start to munch on as Leon goes on and on about his crush. It's a great visual expression of how much Leon's friends support and enjoy this journey he's on and how entertaining it is for all of them.

One visual surprise I enjoyed was the appearance of an Edosian, Chef Zox, during Leon and Ino's date at Zimmerman's. These slender-necked, multi-limbed aliens have been featured in other franchise series in the past, most notably Arex in Star Trek: The Animated Series. His appearance felt like an Easter egg, something that makes most Trek fans giggle and kick their feet, so to speak.
