1. Character Development

Stargazers episode 4 picks up with Leon and his pal Churi finalizing little Alfie’s doggie door in Leon’s quarters. The two exchange pleasantries before Leon’s second date with a departing Ino, and their date is where the real character development begins.

After Leon and Ino order food and share a laugh, Leon asks Ino a personal question about what they’d like to do with their life. After all, Leon has been struggling with that very prospect to this point in the story.

Ino explains that at present he is enjoying traveling with his parents and experiencing new cultures. He implies that while it may not always be what he wants to do, the opportunity for learning in the present is unrivaled.

Ino’s words put Leon at ease, for the time being. Their conversation allows Leon to relax and take Ino to one of his favorite places on the station for viewing the cosmos. The setting of the view provides the perfect romantic moment for the two to share “several dozen kisses.” This physical display of affection leaves both characters longing for more and makes their goodbye all the more emotional.

Following his date, Leon overhears a negative interaction between Syrrik and his father, Jato. Jato scolds Syrrik for reading a fiction novel rather than focusing on his studies for Starfleet.

Despite their differences, Leon attempts to console Syrrik, who puts his guard up and acts like nothing is wrong, despite being on the verge of tears moments earlier. This interaction tells us everything we need to know about Syrrik. He is clearly following a path that he does not want but feels the need to appease his father. Leon, who is more free-spirited, may just yet prove to be Syrrik’s guide.
