3. Character development

While Syrrik has mostly been a foil for Leon so far, in this episode of Stargazers, he treats Leon a bit differently when he tells him to keep his reader so he can finish the Archduke of the Bracelets because you "Gotta finish what you start, Foxwell." This is a very Starfleet officer-track mindset, only he says it with a broad smile, leaving a confused and blushing Leon in his wake.

What makes the character development in this episode so successful is that, despite all that Leon learned about Syrrik's family from other people, especially MeeMee, Syrrik's actions at the end of the episode are completely the opposite of what Leon expected, considering all he heard.

This unexpected twist is core Star Trek — think of the The Original Series episode "The Corbomite Maneuver" — and Leon's blush at the end of the episode says it all. Well done, Jarrett Melendez, well done.
