As in past episodes of Stargazers, Kisai Entertainment's team of artists continues to draw the characters in a way that gives them life and readers insight into their personalities. MeeMee is a free spirit and isn't afraid to speak her mind in episode 8, while Churi visibly sweats and trembles when he and Leon are confronted by Jato about the talent show at the end of this particular webcomic.
My favorite moment here is the expression on Leon's face when he refers to Jato as "My man," complete with what I interpret as a sarcastic thumbs up. It leaves Jato completely flummoxed, but only for a few moments, while Churi barely keeps it together! It reminds me of those times I'd get into trouble with my best friend, and we'd have to face our principal together.
The scene with Jato, Leon, and Churi is my favorite of this chapter because it's so relatable to anyone who's had to fly in the face of authority to express themselves. I also laughed at Jato saying, "Just know that I've got my eye on you two . . . and your little event, too."
How is Lord of the Rings coded in this world, but we get full-on The Wizard of Oz references? It's one of those moments we get in most of the franchise's series, one that breaks the tension in a scene and reminds us that humor is one of the most vital ingredients of making Star Trek what it is.
