The transporter is up to its old tricks: malfunctioning!
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 4 is now two installments deep into its 2026 run, but the one installment everyone keeps chatting about on social media is the highly anticipated puppet episode. And the official synopsis, which is now available online, reveals that Mr. Spock (Ethan Peck) is up to his Vulcan eyebrows in Muppet-esque versions of the USS Enterprise crew in episode 5 — just three weeks away!
The brief synopsis for “Level-5 Transporter Accident” reads as follows (per IMDb): “A transporter malfunction turns most of the crew into puppets while Spock fights to reclaim the ship.”
So, now Strange New Worlds fans know that the Enterprise’s science officer somehow avoids the Muppet malfunction that befalls most of those serving aboard the Federation’s flagship. However, who would have expected that Spock would end up kissing a puppet?
Well, that’s exactly what happens in Strange New Worlds “Level-5 Transporter Accident,” according to Peck. The Spock actor said in an interview with ScreenRant:
“They threw him into so many crazy different genres and situations. They had him singing, they had him dancing, they've got him talking to and kissing puppets.”
I certainly hope that Spock is kissing the puppet version of his current love interest, La’an Noonien Singh (Christina Chong), rather than the fan-favorite Vulcan having to perform some bizarre off-shoot of Sleeping Beauty’s kiss to restore the crew of the Enterprise to normal form.
Many of Strange New Worlds cast members have been teasing their own particular puppets on the season 4 press tour, but, at the time of this writing, fans have only had the opportunity to see actor Anson Mount’s Captain Christopher Pike puppet.
Given what everyone in the cast has been saying about Carol Kane’s Pelia puppet, I think that’s the one I’m most anxious to see. Although, as a Muppets fan, I can’t wait to witness everything that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop conjured up for the upcoming “Level-5 Transporter Accident.”
